The ECC Youth Enrichment programs are a fun opportunity for your child to stretch their imagination and promote a "can-do" attitude. These programs help build confidence and awareness while your children learn skills that are necessary for today's changing world.

Wheel & Hand Building Pottery Class

Explore the exciting versatility of clay! Children will create coil pots, slab constructions or figures. Students will also explore using the potter’s wheel. Basic wheel safety will be covered. Beginners will be given basic instruction and students with previous experience will further develop their skills. Final projects will be fired and glazed to be picked up on the assigned date. All materials are included.

Children will design an outfit from a mystery material supplied the first day of class. Then they will learn to use the sewing machine to make it. The last class will end with a fashion show for parents.

Cartooning with Mike Valentine

This cartooning course is for beginner and intermediate students. The course will cover how to draw cartoon heads, expressions, poses, and action which will lead up to the students drawing their own original comic strips. Super hero comics will also be covered, as well as, how animation is done. Great fun!

Teacher Biography: Mike Valentine
Mike Valentine is a professional cartoonist and illustrator. His work has appeared in The Connecticut Post, Trumbull Times, and numerous other newspapers and magazines. Mike attended Paier College of Art and Fairfield University. Mr. Valentine worked for Disney and has had several of his newspaper comic strips published. He has worked on a number of “Batman” and “Superman” comic books for DC comics. He has done advertising cartoons for newspaper and magazine ads, brochures, and t-shirt designs, among other promotional products. Mike has taught cartooning throughout the state of Connecticut, as well as Orlando, Florida. Mike does oil painting, acrylics, watercolor, mural painter, and other fine arts. Mike does caricatures at parties, conventions, and other private and corporate events. In addition, he works with video clay animation.

Break Dancing offers students who enjoy moving to music and acrobatics an opportunity to dance and perform. This popular dance form builds upper body strength and coordination as well as finding your own character in expressing yourself through dance. In performance, Break Dancing is often a big crowd pleaser, building self confidence among the dancers. Hip-Hop is fast becoming one of the most “in” dance forms in America. Mastering all foundations and elements in this competitive dance style is what we strive for. Luis has been teaching for 7 years and has been the most popular Break Dancing teacher in Connecticut!!

Broadway Bound I

Students will develop strong foundations in the development of their acting and vocal skills. They will develop a more confident sense of creativity and be more confident in their use of imagination. Students will have the opportunity to improve their audition skills. After taking the class, students will understand what to expect during the audition process and how to best prepare for one. Students will be taught the basic fundamentals of theatre, including singing, acting and dance. At the end of the semester, the students will take part in a small workshop performance that will include staged musical numbers from Disney, as well as past and current Broadway shows. Students who take part in the class will also be entitled to audition for our Main stage shows, as a “SEP Student.”

Broadway Bound II

Students will continue the curriculum in Broadway Bound Grades 1 – 4 and move beyond the basics of acting and musical theatre performance. Through more advanced training in acting, vocal techniques and dance each student will feel confident with their performance abilities. As part of the class, students will investigate the art of improvisation as well as the importance of character and how to incorporate character most effectively into performance. Students will also be given the opportunity to have an audition workshop to help students prepare for auditions, as well as further discuss the dos and don’t of the process. An end of the semester workshop performance of various musical numbers will culminate the semester.

A professional member of the staff from Sabrinas Encore Productions will be instructing both the Broadway Bound l and the Broadway Bound ll classes. Every member of the SEP staff is trained in music/theatre and carry with them vast resumes indicating where they have been involved with teaching and the performing arts. Chess Strategy 101

Research shows that those who play chess gain cognitive skills, improve reading comprehension, learn to solve problems logically and improve spatial intelligence and self-esteem! Students learn the fundamentals of the game, including all rules and basic strategies. Students are grouped according to their knowledge and experience with the game so that opponents challenge their abilities.

Red Cross Babysitting Course

Trust the American Red Cross, the leader in health and safety training. The Red Cross Babysitting Course is designed to give your child the skills and confidence to become a great care provider.

Babysitter’s training is a fun, interactive course that builds confidence and develops the ability to look after young children or young siblings. It also provides an increased awareness of responsibility and leadership skills.

The purpose of this course is to provide individuals with information and skills necessary to provide safe and responsible care for young children.

This training will help participants develop skills in five critical areas: leadership, safety, safe play, basic care, first aid, and professionalism.

Red Cross babysitting is an excellent way to help your child understand the responsibilities of child care.

We offer rock climbing, archery, cooking, crafts, team building, and more!

Bring in your Girl Scout or Boy Scout group in and let our staff help facilitate the session. We have professional instructors and a beautiful facility to host your next event or merit badge earning session. Youth Art and Frame Workshop

Do you love acrylic painting on canvas but don’t know how to frame your paintings? Would you like to walk right and have paint, canvas and frames available to create you own artwork to hang in the Easton Youth Art Show? Come to this fun-filled workshop paint on canvas and learn how to frame and hang your artwork. All supplies have been donated by The Easton Lions Club and the venue by the Easton Community Center.
